Visiting one of my favorite blogs, I came across this wonderful little article by one of the early Eastern Orthodox Fathers of the Church:  HOW TO EAT OR A HEAVY BELLY CLOUDS THE SOUL.  It seems so appropriate for Lent:

How to Partake of Food, or, A Heavy Belly Clouds the Soul

 As this is a time of penance and fasting when more attention...

DEATH OF SPOUSE & THE SECOND COMING OF CHRIST

      I've decided to break my silence on the significant illness of my husband. George has been a paraplegic for over 50 years. Despite his disability, he has worked on civil rights all his life and accomplished a phenomenal number of achievements, especially for the African-American community. For a fuller view, see his website: http://www.mrcivilrights.com. In the last few years, he had begun to w...

ST. TERESA OF AVILA & PRAYER OF THE HEART

Posted by livingchrist on October 27, 2012 at 4:05 PM Comments comments (0)

I recently found some good videos on the spirituality of St. Teresa of Avila. There are two sets: PRAYER OF THE HEART and INTERIOR CASTLE (LENGTHY AND IN DETAIL). A catholic sister explains PRAYER OF THE HEART clearly and simply, in a way that is easy to understand. It is pretty much an explanation of St. Teresa's work, INTERIOR CASTLE. The second work, INTERIOR CASTLE, is read slowly and clearly.

      My husband was recently in the hospital. While waiting in his quiet room as he slept on Sunday, I spent some time with one of my favorite spiritual authors, George A. Maloney, S.J. and his 2004 book, ABIDING IN THE INDWELLING TRINITY.

TRANSFORMING UNION

Reading in the Spiritual Diary of Conchita, I came upon this statement by her editor/biographer, Rev. M.M. Philipon, O.P.:

          “There is not one sole form of transforming union but a thousand varieties, or rather an infinity of possible realizatio...

      I know most of you have heard of the Rule of Life followed by religious. I recently read a beautiful blog post about hunger for the Eucharist:  http://www.ignitumtoday.com/2012/07/09/hunger-and-thirst/

The post tells the spiritual story of a veteran, about his growth in love for the Eucharist and the availability/non-availability of the Eucharist in Aphganistan and other places where our military must serve.  A must read!

EXILE OF HEART

For some time now I have been reading the IMITATION OF CHRIST by Thomas a Kempis, a classic of spirituality, and highly regarded, by the way, by Immaculee Ilibagiza.

      Book II, Chapter IX, "Of the Lack of All Comfort" begins this way:  "It is no hard thing to despise human comfort when divine is present.  It is a great thing, yea very great, to be able to bear the loss both of human and divine comfort;
